The project consisted of redesigning the existing storage and entry spaces within the ground level of the company’s existing HQ building. The alterations included a new kitchen, bathrooms, and conference rooms with full height glazing to allow natural light inside. Large hangar-like doors were custom designed to partition off the open conference space to create multi functional areas. The existing garage entrance and lobby were redesigned with a new wing-like metal clad canopy and a 3D corporate logo to clearly define and mark the company’s unique brand upon approach to the building. This self-supporting structure designed within FCF’s existing building consists of five 5’x6’ glass evaluation booths for testing fragrances. Each air sealed booth is used to spray a fragrance or burn a candle to fully infuse the space with the scent of the product being tested. The small window within the door is designed to open for the evaluator to smell the product from outside the booth during testing. The new three bedroom structure is designed to nestle into the tall trees within a small clearing and positioned to capture a narrow view towards the existing pond on the property. The goal was to design & develop a sustainable single-family house in the Catskill Mountains, serving as a weekend retreat or full time residence for a future owner. The modern and sustainable home was inspired by characteristics found in industrial agrarian buildings & Scandinavian farmhouses which exemplify minimalist and natural environments. The building footprint was kept to a minimum and shaped to nestle into the natural contours of the property to reduce environmental impact within the rural community. Passive design strategies, efficient mechanical systems, and sustainable materials were implemented to achieve a healthy home which earned a LEED Gold certification by U.S. Green Building Council.
